A Look on the Pet Grooming Industry
Pet grooming is not an uncommon practice in our society today. As a matter of fact, people will not hesitate to spend loads of money in order to provide for their pet's needs and even have them groomed and bathed by professionals. It is often overlooked by many though, how this industry came to be what it is right now.
Interestingly, when you look at the paintings during the Elizabethan area, you can readily see portraits of pets depicted in their neat and immaculate splendour. This only proves that even then, people, particularly the wealthy ones, were already showing great interest in keeping their pets well groomed.
Meanwhile, as pet breeds became more and more popular in France in the 17th century, poodles were recognised for being the dog of the court. This was also when the first known professional grooming parlours were opened. Since then, more and more pet grooming services and parlours have been opened in order to cater to the growing demand of pet lovers who want their pets to look great all the time.
As society grew to include animals, pets became more prized depending on how they looked. For instance, horses were groomed either by stable boys or professional groomers in order to reflect their owner's taste and status in life. A well groomed animal then, became a symbol of wealth and prosperity.
Today however, pets are considered more than just animals; they are deemed to be a part of the family. Several organisations of pet lovers include pet grooming into their program to show that it is not only the animal's health that is given importance, but equally, his looks, as well.
